What are pheremones?
Pheremones are chemical odor signals, produced by an animal, that
serve as a stimulus to other individuals of the same species for
one or more behavioral responses. Released into the air, pheromones
send out subconscious messages to the opposite sex and trigger
strong feelings of desire and/or attraction.
What do pheremones do?
Pheremones influence how animals develop,
mate, bond, and nurture their offspring. Odors can accelerate
puberty, control women's menstrual cycles, and even influence
sexual orientation. They help us tell lovers and family members
from strangers and let mothers and infants bond. Odors also affect
how often we have sex, and with whom.
How are pheremones
detected?
Pheremones act very differently from 'normal' smells. They utilize
a special sensory organ called the Vomeronasal Organ (VNO), which
is separate from the normal smelling process. Typically the organ
is located in the nasal passages in close proximity to the opening
or Nostil. It is in the form of a pit or sac and can seem gill-like.
A chemical receptor, when the VNO senses pheremones it sends a
signal to the brain in a language with no words, the language
of 'instinct'. The effect is reflexive and instantaneous. Neural
pathways from the VNO extend to the hypothalamus the brain's center
for primal based instincts such as thirst, hunger and sex drive. There
is still much arguing about the presence of this VNO in humans,
but it is well accepted that pigs and cows in the vicinity of
the sex pheromones of their species will be rendered "in the mood",
even if they have no sexual experience, as long as the VNO is
intact.
Do pheremones
REALLY work on humans?
There is still great debate amongst scientists as to whether pheremones
really work on humans or not. The VNO organ physically exists
in approximately 80% in humans, but many scientists believe that
it has been rendered ineffective through centuries of disuse.
Even human pheromones' greatest supporters admit that humans are
not as dependent on their VNO as pigs and cows, still it is hard
to believe that the organ is 100% useless.
A number of pheremones and pheremone-like substances have already
been isolated in humans, and have been shown in scientific studies
to have an affect on a variety of human behaviors and hormonal
processes. A number of controlled human studies have shown that
pheremones, both natural and synthetic/supplemental, do indeed
affect our social behavior, and a growing mountain of raving pheremone
product testimonials also support these findings.
What pheromones
do we know about?
A number of human pheremones have been isolated and studied, three
of of which have been found effective for attracting members of
the opposite sex: androstenol, androstenone, and copulins
.
Androstenol and androstenone are pheremones which are created
on the skin of both sexes when chemicals in human sweat interact
with common bacteria. Both have been found to influence human
attraction.
Associated with youthful exuberance ANDROSTENOL is produced from
the onset of puberty until the early twenties, after which production
rapidly declines. Produced by men in quantites double and triple
to those in women, ANDROSTENOL has the ability to alter people's
impressions of a man's sexual attractiveness, intelligence and
confidence
.
"f emales exposed to androstenol engage in many more, longer
duration, and deeper interactions with men" (Cowley & Brooksbank
(1991)
Cowley, Johnson, & Brooksbank (1977) also found that women
rate men more positively when exposed to androstenol. Benton (1982)
found that women exposed to androstenol on the upper lip rated
themselves as more submissive around mid-cycle, a feeling that
encourages impregnation. Cowley and Brooksbank (1991, p. 658)
mention that Jackson, working in their laboratory had found evidence
that the effects of an intial exposure to androstenol can persist
for at least two weeks!
On the other hand, ANDROSTENONE,
another compound, appears to be the essence of male aggression
and dominance. Women are attracted to men who naturally secret
large quantities of these pheremones, and other men tend to avoid
them.
Copulin, a female substance, is found exclusively in human vaginal
secretions, and has been shown to both elevate male testosterone
levels (directly linked to increased sex drive), and positively
affect perceptions of female attractiveness in targeted males.
The following pheromones have also
been reported to be sensed by the VNO.
Androsterone
Androstadienone
Androstendineine
If we produce pheremones
naturally, why should I use a pheremone enhancement product?
During the course of the day the effectiveness of your natural
pheremones are diminshed by factors such as age, clothing, and
bathing. Through the use of pheremone enhancement products you
are allowing your body to "go back to nature" and connect chemically
with others in a culturally acceptable manner.
What
are the benefits of using pheremone enhancement products?
Boosting your pheromone levels has
the potential to greatly enhance your love life, your personal
life, and your business life, if you use them in your everyday
routine. Enjoy:
- Increased eye contact and smiles from the opposite
sex
- More dates and sexual partners
- A rejuvenation of your current relationship
- More passionate lovemaking
- Members of the same sex will intuitively respect
you
- Better business/employment relationships
- Increased self-confidence
Are there any
negative side effects to pheremone use?
As long as the pheromone products are
used as suggested by the manufacturer there are relatively few
side effects.
People who are hyperallergenic, or those with very sensitive
skin, may find that they may develop a rash in reaction to certain
pheromone products. If this occurs discontinue use of the product.
What are pheremones' shelf life?
Most pheremone perfumes or concentrates have a shelf life of
anywhere between 2 and 10 years depending on factors such as
purity and concentration
Once they come into contact with skin however, pheremones will
begin to break down. More concentrated pheremone products will
remain effective for up to 24, possibly, 48 hours.
